Class Description:
Class description: This summer art class will meet two days a week starting June 12th - July 25th from 2-5pm. If your child needs a creative outlet this summer, please join Ms. Amanda and Ms. D for some awesome art exploration! This will be a hands on experience were we will explore clay, printmaking, sculpture, and much more! Art projects will build upon the art foundations your child has already learned during the school year. Light snack will be provided.
Instructors: · Amanda Norman is PRUMC The Preschool’s newest art teacher. She is now finishing her second year with The Preschool and is looking forward to many years and students to come! Amanda received her BFA in studio art from Columbus State University in 2007 with an emphasis in painting. She has since focused her artistic career in museum education as a teaching artist with the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. As a teaching artist, Amanda works with children of all ages and backgrounds to develop their vocabulary, knowledge, and understanding in art. Amanda believes that every child is an artist and will guide and support their creative endeavors.
· Deirdra Alexander has been teaching at The Preschool of PRUMC for over 20 years, the last eight as the art instructor. She planned, designed, and implemented the instructional art-based program for Pre-K and 5/6 year olds at The Preschool. Her lessons focus on the external and internal artistic skills needed to strengthen and build the student’s learning process, and enjoyment of creating from one’s imagination. Currently, as a teaching artist for 3 years at The High Museum of Art, Deirdra creates art-based lesson plans and instructs elementary age school children and their families. In addition, she has painted commissioned murals and portraits in both oil and acrylic paint, with her works displayed at the Fulton County Juvenile Justice Center, and private businesses and homes around Atlanta. Deirdra works with children of many different skill and interest levels, finding just the right avenue to open up creativity in everyone.
